The Town of Caledonia and the School District of New London have recognized the safety issue with pedestrian and biking in the area around the Readfield Elementary School, Readfield Park, and the community of Readfield and have decided to develop a walking, running, biking trail on our two adjacent properties. This trail could be used by all, and we believe this trail will be a safer alternative to walking and running on town, county and state roads in the Readfield area. The trail will also provide a safe option for the Readfield School children to use for physical activities like walking and running which certainly can not be done on local roads.

The proposed recreation trail will encircle the Readfield Park and Readfield School properties. It will be a circular trail one half mile in length and will provide a half loop option for those needing or desiring a shorter walk. The trail is proposed to be eight feet wide and surfaced with stone screenings for easier walking and running. Benches, trash receptacles, and appropriate signage will be included. The trail will cross the park and school parking lot driveways twice and as a result pavement striping and caution signs at the crossings are also included.
